Things I'd Like to Devote Time To

This summer, I want to set my schedule for the following:

(I may change or adapt this later, and it doesn't apply to time I will be on vacation. I will be on vacation from, I think, the second week of July through the first week of August, plus a week before term starts to account for work week and moving.)

Weekdays (Monday through Friday)
  • Work for 10 hrs per day (I plan to define this more thoroughly later, but on average 5 of these hours will be focused on the prosthetic knee.).
  • Sleep for 7 hours per day (and schedule for 7.5 because I know I'll get less!)
  • Meditate for 30 minutes per day
  • Make time to eat! (This should take 2 hrs per day: 30 minutes for breakfast and lunch, and an hour for dinner, including getting and cooking food.)
  • Make time for hygeine. (This gets an hour per day).
  • Make my schedule/plan for the day. This should take 30 minutes.
  • 2.5 hours of time for exercise, time spent with D, helping other people and social stuff in general. The exact amount of time I spend on each of these will vary, depending on the day.
Weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Kitchen Duty, House Duty & other house things (2 hrs each day)
  • Spend 10.5 hours on sleeping, eating, and hygeine, the same as during the week.
  • Spend time thinking and reading about personal and professional development. (2 hrs)
  • Meditate (1 hr)
  • Free time to think and internet in general, by myself (3 hrs)
  • Clean my room and do laundry (2hrs)
  • Social time! (Includes exercise, generally spending time with other people in a focused way, and randomly doing nice things--3 hours.)
  • 30 minutes of planning my day and upcoming week
My plan right now is to schedule each day and week as it comes and use this as a sort of time budget. I plan to shuffle things as I go along and keep track of what gets shuffled where, so I can budget better in the future.

Terrible Misjudgment

Tonight's endeavors took me much longer than expected. Formatting the previous blog post set me back 20 minutes. Trying to find the contents of my pockets took about an hour and 20 minutes, with nil result so far. I discovered I am rather attached to my unfortunately-pocketed pants and still have them. I had trouble finding my dress shoes and discovered I had to hem my pants, which added an extra 20 minutes. Trying to move slowly and not wake up my roommates made putting the rest of my clothing together take an extra 20 minutes. And I realized my tennis shoes are far too warm for Ghana. I think it's time I went to sleep.

Tonight's Agenda

Last night, I slept between 7 and 8 hours, with a wake up after 6 hours. It is now 2:30 am, and I am ready to work! Yes, my schedule has turned topsy turvy. I'm moving rather than working now, so things ought to be just fine. (And this way I can see my friends more...)

Ahem. On tonight's agenda:

Intent

I intend to use this page as a tool for improving my time management skills. On it, I will document how long I expect to spend on various tasks, and compare this time to how long they actually take. In addition, I hope this page will help me stay honest about what I'm working on and how I spending my time. In the end, I may even be able to use it to help determine under what conditions I work most efficiently.
